Challenge

Jthan has challenged me to a “program-off” — he’ll write something in Go, and I in Python — for a common sysadmin-related task.

Rubric

It will be scored on:

  • number of lines of code (as measured by cloc so comments are ignored)
  • readability
  • efficiency (speed of completion and resource consumption)
  • preference of use for judge(s)
  • ease of deployment
  • cross-platform support/compatibility

Stakes

As Jthan has suggested, the loser needs to “make a 5-10 minute video about why they appreciate the other person despite constant disagreements.”

Terms

The resulting projects will be published to our respective public git repositories, and the desired submission will be given by commit hash. Future commits may occur, but the above rubric will be applied to this canonical submission only.
