We give what will probably be our final personal projects episode.
Just the Tip
- Paden talks about CIFS.
- The Arch Linux wiki has a pretty good article on it.
Notes
Starts at 20m50s.
I was drinking a Left Hand Brewery Nitro Milk Stout. Paden was drinking water. Jthan was drinking Rolling Rock.
- Personal Projects
- Paden is working on setting up a PBX.
- Jthan was playing with Wiki.js.
- He also moved our Discord/IRC BridgeBot to Amazon EC2.
- He also set up a test instance of Nextcloud.
- He set it up with Wasabi storage and wants to play with link-sharing protection.
- He also is bemoaning the OpenVPN Android app because Android is aggressive about putting your wifi antenna to sleep when the display turns off.
- He still has a hard-on for Slack Nebula.
- But he complains about it all the time lol.
- The “certificates” that Nebula uses? Not actually real X.509 certificates, so they completely lack the X.509 supporting architecture and tooling.
- Again, Wireguard is nothing new. It’s the exact same concept as, say, Lantern, tinc, Hyperboria, cjdns and a slew of others. There is nothing revolutionary about Wireguard (or Nebula).
- He still has a hard-on for Slack Nebula.
- I’m replacing iptables/shorewall with nftables on my router box.
15 Clams
In this segment, Jthan shares with you a little slice of life. The title is a reference to this video. (2m16s in)
Starts at 49m30s.
Jthan wonders if it’s worth it to run a firewall at the border and in the OS instance on AWS EC2. (It is.)
Errata
- Yeah, California removed their felony criminalization of engaging in unprotected sex without disclosing your HIV status.
- The full text.
- Jthan is correct, it is in fact Proposition 65.
- The British DO pronounce “herbs” with a hard H!
- I now work for NetFire.
- The Nile River is, indeed, freshwater.
- I was wrong, CIFS refers to version 1 of SMB. Whoops. (They’re used fairly interchangeably in the Linux world.)
- Slack was bought by Salesforce.
- Hotdog girl gif.
